Screen time is the time a kid spends each day with screen gadgets like phones, TVs and tablets. We know that higher exposure to screen time for kids is not good, but for our comfort we allow that to happen. Parents believe that a tantrum throwing child can get settled at one place with the help of electronic gadgets. Such gadgets display the content in a vivid form which attracts a kid’s attention for an extended period of time. Although, over exposure to electronic gadgets may result in sleep deprivation and in obesity. Research explains that prolonged exposure to electronic gadgets negatively affects usage of language and cognitive development. It hinders executive functionality in children below 5 years. Many parents in India are exposing their children to various education apps which they term as modern style of education. But before doing that we must raise a question to ourselves : “Are the uses more productive than the harm it causes?”. Apps and videos can not teach a toddler in a better way than parents can. We should never pressure children by introducing new technologies to them. Parents should find time for their kids, social interaction needs to be improved and screen time for kids should be reduced. Nothing compares to making a child learn from their parents by showing or narrating the real life examples. So, we must make them learn from an actual, real world than a reel, 2-D screen.
